As the lead organizer at R&O, I respect the old saying about “teaching a person to fish” so much so that I am happy to provide you a step-by-step guide to implement the organizing skills that built me a successful business. After the initial spatial assessment, I will come up with a comprehensive strategy for you to organize your space, your home and your life, on your own terms and your own time frame.
When is the last time that old box of photos saw the light of day? How often do you tell yourself you’ll get around to sorting them? R&O has the expertise and resources to see the project through, making sure that your precious memories are preserved and accessible for years to come. Once this project is off your to-do list you'll be ready to go on vacation and take more pictures!
Moving can be one of the most stressful events we experience in our lives. Let R&O take it off your plate completely and facilitate every aspect of your move. From helping you pack and stay on track so you don’t end up frantic the day before the movers show up, to unpacking every box so you can feel at home in your new space without lifting a finger. We coordinate with the moving company, and can even let your utility companies know about your upcoming move. You won’t believe how easy moving can be!
Don’t clean up prior to the initial visit; it is much more helpful to see your home in all its natural glory! Your organizer will walk through your home with you and encourage you to talk freely about what the space is not providing, what is bothering you, what drives you crazy, and what helps you stay organized. After this assessment, your Organizer will prepare a proposal and email it to you within a couple days for approval.
You and your organizer will empty out the spaces you have prioritized. For every item that comes out, it will be given a category: Keep (including items that should change rooms), Toss (trash & recycling), Donations, or Pending. These categories usually expand and evolve as the organizing process continues. If you're anxious about making the tough decisions, don't worry, that's part of our job: to provide emotional support. Once each item is with its friends, we are ready to Rise & Organize!
Before putting items back (in an orderly fashion!), you and your Organizer will talk about how the space will be used, what the functionality of the area will be, and how you - as an individual - operate on a day to day basis. This step is crucial in creating a space that will be functional for you and that you will be able to maintain with as little effort as possible. There may need to be a shopping list if there are tools or containers that are necessary for completing the project.
Your Organizer will take as many donations/consignments that she can fit in her car at the end of each session. For larger items and bigger projects, we will happily arrange for a donations pick up and/or junk removal. R&O works with a handful of local consignment shops and will transport the items.
It’s done!Congratulations!Now your space is functional, meaning you'll be more productive. You might even have time to take a much deserved break every once in a while!
